Meadowlark Optics

E-Series 1920 x 1200 Spatial Light Modulator

Meadowlark Optics’ E-Series Spatial Light Modulator (SLM) has impressive specifications. Despite being economical, it offers high performance, making it suitable for educational labs with budget constraints. This Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) SLM is designed for pure phase applications, providing fast response times and high phase stabilities.

Meadowlark is known for having the fastest SLMs with minimal phase ripple. The backplanes are custom-designed for high refresh rates and direct analog drive schemes, resulting in low phase ripple. Customization allows for even better performance with phase ripple as low as 0.025 radians. The 1920 x 1200 SLM comes with a 60 Hz HDMI Controller, enabling fast liquid crystal response times. It includes an output trigger for synchronization.

Diffraction efficiency, both in the 1st and 0th order, is measured considering factors like phase ramp period and pixel values. The 0th order diffraction efficiency accounts for losses in transmission, diffraction, and imperfect reflectivity.

Meadowlark’s SLMs come with a Graphical User Interface and software development kits supporting LabVIEW, Matlab, Python, and C++. The software allows users to generate images, correct aberrations, calibrate optical responses, and monitor SLM temperature. Regional calibrations provide high spatial phase fidelity, and the SLM supports various image generation capabilities like Bessel beams, lens functions, gratings, and diffraction patterns.

The optional liquid cooling system utilizes a copper block connected to the back of the optical head to remove heat from the SLM chip. The copper block is linked to a cooling unit with a pump, radiator, and fan using 2 meters of tubing. This system cools the included liquid coolant to the surrounding temperature.
