VersaLight is composed of a thin layer of aluminum MicroWires® on a glass substrate. It sets a new standard for applications requiring extended spectral range, stability in harsh environments, high contrast, and a wide field of view from the ultraviolet through the near infrared (300-2000 nm).
What separates VersaLight from dichroic sheet polarizers is that it functions as a reflective polarizer, unlike dichroic sheets that absorb unwanted light. This distinguishing feature allows VersaLight to survive at much higher laser power levels. Couple this with its structure of glass and aluminum wires, which provides the stability to survive at much higher temperatures, and you have an optical component that can endure very harsh environmental extremes. The ability of this polarizer to reflect and transmit polarized light also can be combined with its broad field-of-view to create a polarizing beamsplitter; separating incident light into two beams of differing polarization and high contrast.
Even in large sizes, VersaLight is an economical choice. Meadowlark processes these polarizers to any custom shape or polarizer orientation up to 4 inches in diameter.
